Changes to standards

Access standards move slowly, but they do move — and when they do, the practical questions are always the same: is my tower still compliant, and does anything change on site? This is the page where we answer that in plain English as changes land.

The current baseline

The governing product standard for mobile access towers is EN 1004-1:2020, which replaced the 2004 edition with stronger requirements on stability, side protection and access — our EN 1004 guide covers it in full. Alongside it, PASMA guidance and HSE publications set the good-practice expectations for training, inspection and use.

• Revisions or amendments to EN 1004 and related access standards, with a plain-English summary of what changed.
• Updates to HSE guidance affecting tower users, inspection or training expectations.
• What each change means for towers already in service — compliance rarely expires overnight, and we will say clearly when action is and is not needed.
