How to store scaffold towers

Watch where tower damage actually happens and a pattern appears: it is rarely at height. It is the brace dropped on its claw, the platform stored under a pallet of tiles, the frames rattling loose in a van. Storage and transit are where towers age — and both are fixable with a system.

The storage location

  • Dry and off the ground. Aluminium shrugs off rain in use, but standing water inside tube ends and on deck surfaces through a winter is a different matter. Racking, pallets or battens keep components drained and off wet floors.
  • Racked by component type — frames together, braces hung by their claws (hanging protects the springs), platforms flat and never bearing other loads, castors and clips in a bin or bag.
  • Nothing stacked on decks. Platform decks are working surfaces with a rating, not shelving; point loads from stored goods delaminate and bow them invisibly.

Keeping sets complete

An incomplete tower is an unusable tower — or worse, one that gets built incomplete. Store each tower as a counted set with its manual: a laminated component list on the rack takes seconds to check against and turns "who had the stabilisers?" into a non-event. Quarantine condemned parts well away from serviceable stock.

Transit

  • Strap components so they cannot slide — claws and platform hooks are the casualties of a braking van.
  • Load heavy frames first, platforms on top of the stack, never under it.
  • Pad contact points; tube-on-tube chatter over a year of miles wears exactly the surfaces that need to stay round.

Anything that turns up bent, cracked or missing at the rack gets replaced before the next job — the spares range exists so that storage-day discoveries never become site-day compromises.
